Misson # 2 San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo

Mission San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo was founded on June 3, 1770. The Spainish ship "San Antonio" sailed into harbor of Monterey after a month of travel from San Diego. Carmel mission is also know as "Parent Mission." Mission Carmel is one of the most beautiful and interesting historical landmarks on the coast of California. The remains of Frs. Junipero Serra, Juan Crespi, Fermin Lausen and julian Lopez are all burried at the foot of the church's altar.

Mission #18 San Luis Rey De Francia

Mission San Luis Rey De Francia "King of the Missions" was the second mission we stopped at. This is mission #18, founded June, 13, 1798. This mission was built to help bridge the gap in the El Camino Real.

Mission #1 San Diego De Alala

The first mission we stopped at was actually the first mission built. San Diego De Alcala "Mother of the Missions" was founded July 16, 1769. Fr. Junipero Serra was to begin working on the mission, while Governor Portola continued by foot up north to Monterey CA.
